Settling down slowly
It’s been about two weeks since I came to Salinas de Guaranda. Not much and also a lot has happened since : ) so I’ll try to unload it here bit by bit.
Arriving here from Quito took me about 5 hours. With all the luggage I was recommended to use a sort of shared taxi service that operates between Quito and Ambato. It was a quite handy door-to-door service, although the driver arrived about 2,5h late. On the other hand, quite normal here. For the convenience it was worth to pay $12 (phone if someone needs: 0992188880). From Ambato I was picked up by Javier from Salinas. On the two hour ride climbing to the altitude of 3600m I saw two things that many people need to wait and be lucky to see: the volcano Chimborazo (6500m) on an almost clear sky and the wild llama-related cute animals called Vicuña.
The arrival to Salinas was warm. Meaning the people : ) When its dark the temperature drops quite a lot. It’s not the same cold as in Finland in the winter.. more like a cold that you just can’t win by putting on layers.
For the two weeks I’ve stayed in the place of a Spanish-French couple, who’ve been more than awesome and helpful. All the simple stuff, like where to buy milk or wood for the fire take a thought or two to figure it out.
In terms of work I’ve merely just tried to find out what is happening here : ) All these organizations and factories under other organizations is quite a mess. With some time, I’ll get the figure. FUENTE MODOSALINERITO.COM
